Terraces in Glebe are well known for their beautiful heritage and Victorian aesthetics, and not usually renowned for modern sustainable design practises. However, this unique project has successfully bridged that divide with an innovative architectural design, complimented with efficient structural design solutions to create a sustainable green roof that provides thermal insulation and an urban oasis for the owners.
Key engineering considerations included additional load bearing calculations for structural integrity, efficient drainage and stormwater design to prevent water ingress and water accumulation.
The internal structural design embraced the existence of a natural water channel, with the design of an elevated mezzanine steel structure. The steel portal frame and beam layout allowed for an open plan design creating a sense of volume and grandeur.
